Week 2 Story Anxiety Annie

Anxiety Annie was a cute pig who was always scared of everything. She was all alone and new she always was a worrier. She was so scared that one day she thought the earth was falling and would fall into another Galaxy. She tried to go to sleep but she couldn't stop thinking about how the world was going to fall. She thought of what she would do if it did and how she would deal with it. She finally fell into a peaceful sleep but was rudely awaken by the earth rumbling. Annie was so scared she started to squeal and tell all the other farm animals that the earth was falling into another galaxy where aliens will suck out their brains.

Mr.Dog: I can't believe that I will die before I got to be called "good boy".
Annie: Can't you see that we are all going to die and that nothing matters.
The heard of cows: Mehh who cares, we knew we were going to eventually die.
Annie: Did you hear that the earth is falling and we didn't even get to eat breakfast yet.

She went around telling everyone and the Horse overheard and decided to put this to an end. Horse was the leader of the farm and everyone respected and loved him. He explained to her that the Humans were talking about an earthquake and that it is a very normal thing and that we should not freak out. Horse was trying to be nice and humble about the situation but did not want others to worry. Annie was humiliated at the fact that she thought the world was falling but relieved that it wasn't. She knew now that she needed to watch what she said and always turn to a friend to get help.

Author's Notes:
This story was a spin off of The Foolish, Timid Rabbit by Ellen Babbitt. I wanted to relate this story to my own. I used different characters and a different "event". I think the stories both match up but also are different enough to read both stories. The Timid Rabbit showed an anxiety stricken rabbit that thought the earth was ending. It tells us that we shouldn't jump to conclusions and get all the facts before we run and tell.

  1. Oh, thank you so much for doing this, Izzy! And switching one set of animals to a different set of animals in a new setting is exactly the kind of "mix-and-match" that you can do (sometimes people put their own pets in their stories, which is fun). And giving "Anxiety Annie" a name is perfect; it's hard to tell in the translations, but in the old Pali language of the jatakas, the animals have names just like that, where as soon as you hear the name, you know something about the characters.

So, I am glad you tried this approach to story-tinkering... and your Sparks story from yesterday made me think that I should find a love story type of jataka to include there in the Anthology. There is a version of the story of Shakuntala, a kind of Cinderella-story, which I could use, so I will swap out one of the animal stories and do that for next semester. I hadn't even noticed that gap in the anthology, but now I know I need to work on that for next semester's classes. THANK YOU.

  2. Izzy, I really enjoyed your spin on the story. I really liked your creative decision to add dialogue to the story as well. In my opinion, adding dialogue adds life to a story, and after seeing yours, I think I may try to incorporate that into my future stories. I also liked that you changed up the scenario. Some stories I read did not really defer from the original story, but yours was really fun to read because it was different!

  3. Hello again, Izzy!

What a great story! I enjoyed your creative writing style. The dialogue in the plot adds to each of the characters so that it's not just Annie the pig.

I think it would be helpful if the last few sentences describing the outcome were separated into a new paragraph so that it's kind of like a "The End". Anyway, great job! I look forward to reading more.
