Week 5 Story: The Young Couple

Read the revised version TheYoungCouple  on my portfolio!

There once was a young couple so cute that they got stopped everywhere they went and people said how adorable they were. The man, Carl, and the woman, Isabella, met at a very young age in a diner off the highway. She was with her girlfriends getting a milkshake and he was all by himself grabbing a quick bite to eat. They saw each other and instantly knew that they would spend their whole life together. They got married in a little chapel where there where lilies and tulips and everyone cheered them on.They were so happy and couldn't imagine a better life.
Carl was drafted into the Army and Isabella couldn't imagine him leaving for that long but she accepted it. They tried to spend all the time they could and did things they have always wanted to do. They went backpacking and swimming in some beautiful rivers where the crickets would chirp all night and you could see every star in the sky. She even bought a star and named it after themselves.
After their adventures, he left for deployment. Isabella found out she was pregnant with twins and was so excited that she wrote to her husband. She wrote:
                                  Dear Carl,
While we had so many fun adventures this summer, we will be
bringing more adventures into the world with two twin boys. I
can't wait to show you the ultrasounds and for you to hear the heartbeats.
                                   We love you,
                                               Isabella
Before Carl could get her letter he was on a mission and an airstrike hit where he was out. Carl never got to find out he was having twins. Isabella was so heartbroken that she ran off to a small village where a man helped raised her children and they sang war songs to teach her children about their brave father who fought for their freedom. She reminds them that daddy is up in the stars looking down on us.

Author's Notes:
I wanted to show a story that was like Sita and Rama's love but with a healthier relationship. Rama sees Sita and wants to make her his wife because she is so beautiful. They have somewhat a complicated love. He is banished to a forest and Sita follows. She is taken by Ravana and Rama has to find her and fight for her love. He finds her and she declares after a few months that she is pregnant but he does not believe it is his so he leaves her.  She is banished to a village where a man helps raise her children and he teaches them hymns of Rama and they sing of him. Like this story, Carl and Isabella love each other deeply, they have children together and then the man leaves for some reason. I took those key items and made a story of my own. Some aspects of love, children and loneliness were included that are in both stories. In my story, I added real love and during the war love that was so crucial to the Baby Boom in America. It is both a sad and a happy story where love was true but death is also. Live life to the fullest.

  1. Hello Izzy!
The way you recreated the story to have a better relationship between the two was refreshing. Instead of having Carol think Isabella is cheating on him you kept their relationship strong even when he was out at war. The ending was sad, when Carol died not knowing he had twins, but it was written in such a way that Isabella still got to raise the children with a father present, which helped lift up the mood.

  2. Hi Izzy!

This is a very sweet interpretation! This retelling changes the events I took greatest issue with in the original Ramayana (namely, Rama being a cheeky git), and I believe that while you've retained the melancholy ending, each character is allowed a greater measure of decency, which I approve of! I especially enjoyed the children being raised singing war songs, although I would like to know just what war songs refers to... Army chants? 1960's Beatles? Bob Dylan? The National Anthem? In any case, this was a refreshing change-up from the Rama and Sita we read about previously. Good job!

  3. Hey Izzy! I like how you kept the ending the way it is in the story but with the slight differences. I think that this retelling makes the story a lot easier to read in my opinion. Its funny reading about relationships of a story because you feel like you need to know what everyone is thinking yet I think you did a good job with this for characters like Carol. Overall, Great story!

  4. Hi Izzy! This is a very nice interpretation of the love story of Rama and Sita. Although it ended with heart break for Isabella she was able to move on with her life and enjoy it with what her love with Carl had made. I think you did a wonderful job with your story. I look forward to reading more stories from you in the future!
